Survivors of NYC Jails, People Who Lost Loved Ones, and Other Leading Experts Held Healing Action & Released New Blueprint to Address the Deadly Humanitarian Crises of NYC Jails

With the Hope of Partnering with a New Mayoral Administration and City Council to Enact Long Overdue and Urgent Reforms, the Blueprint Provides a Concrete 10-Point Plan for Saving Lives, Stopping Abuse, and Improving Safety by Reducing Incarceration, Ending Solitary Confinement, Ensuring Medical and Mental Health Care, Closing Rikers Island, and More

(New York, NY) — Today, people who were incarcerated, family members who lost loved ones or have loved ones incarcerated, public defenders, civil rights organizations, and other leading experts as part of the Jails Action Coalition and HALT Solitary Campaign held a healing action and released a new Blueprint to Address the Deadly Humanitarian Crises of NYC Jails. The event included a healing ceremony, poetry, and other healing practices. One component of healing for many people is solutions to prevent future loss, and participants released the Blueprint for this purpose. Following the election of a new Mayor and new City Council, and as the current Council finalizes its critical work for the rest of 2025, this Blueprint provides a concrete 10-point plan for addressing the deadly humanitarian crises of the city jails…
