Peace. This is Common. And I’m joining advocates and state lawmakers around New York for a Parole Justice Day of Action. We’re demanding the passage of the Elder Parole Bill and the Fair & Timely Parole Bill. Because in New York, too many people, who are eligible for release right now, are still being denied a fair chance to return home and reunite with their families. That’s because parole review still focuses on the charges instead of the changes that a person has made during incarceration. Many people have accomplished many things: becoming scholars, mentors, faith leaders, and violence interrupters. We need them back with their families and their communities to share their brilliance and their life. So join me in calling on the New York Assembly and Senate to pass the Fair & Timely Parole Bill and the Elder Parole Bill.
