Ahead of Oral Arguments in Case Challenging Mayor’s Illegal Executive Orders — And as the Mayor’s Illegal Executive Orders Continue to Cause Grave Harm and Usurp the City Council’s Legislative Function — Local Law 42 Must Be Implemented Immediately to Stop Torture, Save Lives, and Improve Safety for Everyone

June 6 marks 10 years since Kalief Browder died after suffering in solitary confinement. June 7 marks 6 years since Layleen Polanco died in solitary confinement. People who have survived solitary confinement, family members, and members of the Jails Action Coalition and HALT Solitary Campaign will hold a rally to honor them and demand an end to solitary confinement…. The rally will take place ahead of oral arguments in the City Council’s and Public Advocate’s lawsuit challenging the Mayor’s orders to suspend Local Law 42’s restrictions on solitary confinement…
