SUPPORTERS HAIL MILESTONE AND CALL FOR A VOTE ON THE BILL
NEW YORK — Today, a majority of New York State Senators (32) co-sponsored the Fair & Timely Parole Act (S.159-Salazar/A.127-Weprin), pending legislation in New York State that restores the Parole Board to its original purpose of evaluating people’s readiness for release, rather than denying people based solely on their conviction, while preserving the Board’s discretion to make individualized determinations. The bill would not guarantee anyone’s release. (Supporters had already secured majority committed support for the bill, along with the Elder Parole bill, in both houses of the legislature, but now they have secured majority co-sponsorship.)
