Lawmakers push to include parole reform in state’s upcoming Master Plan for Aging

Legislators and aging advocates are pressing state health officials to include elder parole reform in the state’s Master Plan for Aging—an effort they say is critical to address the health crisis for older New Yorkers in prisons.

Last month, lawmakers sent a letter to Dr. James McDonald, state health commissioner, and Greg Olsen, acting director of the Office for the Aging, requesting that officials include a directive for parole reform in the master plan. A draft of the Master Plan for Aging, an effort ordered by Gov. Kathy Hochul to improve health and support services for older New Yorkers, is expected to come out early next year….
