FAIR & TIMELY PAROLE AND ELDER PAROLE BILLS ARE BACKED BY A MAJORITY OF LEGISLATORS & BROAD COALITION
(Albany, NY) – Today, NY State Lawmakers, crime survivors and formerly incarcerated New Yorkers held a rally and press conference to call attention to surging deaths in New York State prisons and demand passage of common-sense Parole Justice measures to save lives, save money, and reunite families. Specifically, participants highlighted that people are dying in NY state prisons on average every other day, according to newly released information from the state required by legislation enacted last year. 55 people have died in state prisons thus far in 2026. 11 were born in the 1960s. 7 were born in the 1950s. 6 were born in the 1940s. 2 were born in the 1930s.
