New York, NY (March 13, 2025) — After the brutal beating to death of Robert Brooks and Messiah Nantwi, and following a 22-day illegal prison strike that left at least nine people dead and tens of thousands of people locked in solitary confinement in life-threatening conditions, the Justice Policy Institute (JPI) today released A Moment of Reckoning, a policy blueprint outlining urgent steps to reform the New York state prison system. Please watch a recording of today’s press conference announcing the release of the report here.
