HALT SOLITARY CAMPAIGN STATEMENT ON LOCKDOWN AT COLLINS PRISON

(Buffalo, NY) – According to press reports, incarcerated people at Collins Prison in Western New York took over one dorm in an apparent uprising, and NYS DOCCS has now locked down the entire facility.

As with every incident that occurs in prison, immediately available information is limited, prison officials and staff unions seek to control the narrative, and members of the media and public should seek to hear from people who are incarcerated in the facility, as well. Today, Jerome Wright, Co-Director of the HALT Solitary Campaign and a survivor of 32 years of incarceration, said the following based on preliminary reports:
