(New York) – Today is the ninth day of the illegal work stoppage by New York State prison guards, who abandoned their jobs and left incarcerated people on lockdown with limited or no access to food, medicine, medical care, programs, or legal and family visits. An anonymous individual incarcerated at Clinton Prison in Dannemora, NY released the following statement:
“We have been locked down since last Tuesday. The National Guard is here all because the officers got caught beating the brother at Marcy to death. Now guards want to protest the HALT bill and take away more of our rights and privileges because they can’t get away with beating us and having to do their jobs. These officers are playing the taxpayers who pay their salaries by having them think we are animals and they are hard working citizens doing their job when they are beating us and denying us things we are entitled to every opportunity they get…
