(New York) — Today, New York University School of Law’s Center for Race, Inequality, & the Law released Freedom Delayed, Justice Denied: Increasing Racial Disparities in New York State’s Parole Release Decisions, a devastating new report finding deepening racial bias in parole release decisions in New York State. The publication, which analyzes parole release data across demographics, found that the last three years saw the sharpest racial disparities in parole releases since the state began collecting this data in 2016. This period coincides with Governor Kathy Hochul’s time in high office.
