As Part of “End Mass Incarceration” Advocacy Day, Speakers Demand Slate of Legislative and Executive Policy Changes to Ensure Fair Pathways Home from Prison & End to Prison Abuse

Albany, NY) – As part of an End Mass Incarceration advocacy day, lawmakers, formerly incarcerated New Yorkers, and crime survivors held a press conference calling for fair pathways home from prison and an end to the abuse of incarcerated people. In the wake of racist mobs of prison guards viciously murdering Robert Brooks and Messiah Nantwi, and the evidence that a racist culture of brutality has continued unchecked behind bars for decades, lawmakers committed to addressing the crisis in our prison system. Recently, Senate Crime Victim, Crime & Correction Committee Chair Julia Salazar released a groundbreaking report, Built on Brutality, finding racist violence by guards endemic to the prison system and calling for several urgent solutions.
