(Albany, NY) — Today, a coalition of formerly incarcerated leaders, grieving families, and human rights advocates gathered in the corridor to the New York State Capitol for a powerful and solemn funeral rally condemning Governor Kathy Hochul and the legislature for their inaction in the face of suffering, physical and sexual abuse, and death in prison, and demanding they act in the final few days of session.
Following the rally, participants held a funeral procession to the NY Senate, NY Assembly, and Governor’s office, where they laid caskets and flowers.
Theresa Grady, a Harlem Community Leader with the RAPP Campaign, whose beloved husband passed away at Eastern Prison in February of this year, said: “Now is the time to pass this urgent legislation to bring people home on their own two feet, and not in body bags.” …
