(New York, NY and San Francisco, CA) – Today, President Joe Biden announced that he is commuting the sentences of 37 people incarcerated in federal custody, removing the death penalty and replacing it with sentences of life without the possibility of parole. In response, the Release Aging People in Prison (RAPP) Campaign, the Center for Constitutional Rights, the Drop LWOP Coalition of California and other members of a national coalition working to end death by incarceration, issued this statement:
