Open letter to Gov Hochul / NYS Legislature from a survivor of solitary confinement on her capitulation to the illegal demands of DOCCS and members of NYSCOBA In an attempt to abrogate the HALT Solitary Law and divert attention from the brutal and racist lynching of Robert Brooks at Marcy Correctional Facility….
“This is a video letter to Governor Kathy Hochul and the members of the state legislature. I’m doing this by video because it seems like the only way we get our side of the story out is we have to create our own. Because the narrative that’s being told is one that is not true. My name is Jerome R. Wright. I’m the co-director of the HALT solitary campaign … I’m addressing this letter to you as somebody uniquely qualified to talk about the current crisis. I am somebody who is a survivor of solitary. To look at me right now you would not know that the vestiges from that torture still remain with me. I want you, Governor, to put yourself in your bathroom. It’s probably bigger than a cell, but just in put yourself in your bathroom for 24 hours. You can’t leave. There’s nobody who’s going to come down and give you any counseling, any therapy, any education, any program, any conversation …
