(New York, NY) –  Public Advocate Jumaane Williams joined people who have been incarcerated, family members, and allies as part of the Jails Action Coalition and #HALTsolitary Campaign for a rally after the deaths of Dashawn Jenkins, Ariel Quidone, Sonia Reyes, Soso Ramishvili, Ramel Powell, Terrence Moore, and another individual whose identity hasn’t been disclosed. All told, at least seven people have died in NYC custody in just the last six weeks. NYC jails remain in a deadly humanitarian crisis that has taken the lives of countless New Yorkers and continues to leave thousands of people in dire conditions.
